The New Chaucer Society and the International Piers Plowman Society are excited to announce a new series of online workshops for students

CREATIVE MEDIEVALISMS

Please nominate your students for our inaugural workshops!

Patience Agbabi/The Wife of Bath, Friday, April 4, 6pm-730pm GMT

Sarah Tolmie/Piers Plowman, Friday, April 25, 6pm-730pm GMT

WHAT: Under the guidance of published “creative medievalists,” students will engage closely with a brief selection from a Middle English poem and then begin to develop their own creative response

Student participants will be nominated by their professors and recruited by the workshop organizers

o         Workshops will be conducted via webinar

o        Students who complete one or both workshops will receive a Certificate of Completion

o        Student work from Spring 2025 may be eligible for presentation at the 2025 Piers Colloquium (online, 25-26 July) or other venues. 

WHO: Any student with some University-level exposure to Chaucer in Middle English (for the Agbabi workshop) or to Piers Plowman or other Middle English poetry in the original language (for the Tolmie workshop) can be nominated by a faculty member to participate. 

All majors welcome; students can be enrolled in AA, BA, MA, or MFA programs (or their equivalents). Nominating faculty are welcome to attend the webinars with their students!

HOW: Faculty should send nominations to Candace Barrington (BarringtonC@ccsu.edu) AND Liz Schirmer (eschirme@nmsu.edu) no later than Monday, March 3 (for the Agbabi workshop) or Monday, Mar.17 (for the Tolmie workshop). Nominate early to reserve a spot! 

Nominations should include the following: 

· student name(s), email(s), major(s), and any coursework that includes relevant texts

o        your brief reason for nomination (1-2 sentences)

o        Students can be nominated for either workshop, or for both; group nominations (e.g., of a seminar) are welcome

o        Workshop organizers will reach out to nominated students directly to invite them to participate

o        Student participants will be expected to prepare a brief selection from an assigned Middle English text in advance
