The New Chaucer Society and the International Piers Plowman Society are proud to present a series of workshops for students:
Please nominate your students for our Spring 2026 workshops!
Eric Weiskott/POETRY WITH PIERS PLOWMAN, 6 March 2026, 18:00 GMT (1pm EST, 12pm CST, 11am MST, 10am PST)
Bruce Holsinger/MAKING WITH MANUSCRIPTS, 10 April 2026, 18:00 GMT (2pm EDT, 1pm CDT, 12pm MDT, 11am PDT)
WHAT: Under the guidance of published “creative medievalists,” students will engage closely with a brief selection from a medieval text and then begin to develop their own creative response.
• Student participants will be nominated by their professors and recruited by the workshop organizers;
• Workshops will be conducted via Zoom;
• Students who complete one or both workshops will receive a Certificate of Completion.
WHO: Any student with some formal exposure to Middle English poetry in the original language can be nominated by a faculty member. For the Weiskott workshop, some exposure to Piers Plowman is excellent but not required. All majors and levels welcome. Nominating faculty are welcome to attend the webinars with their students!
HOW: Faculty should send nominations to Candace Barrington (BarringtonC@ccsu.edu) AND Liz Schirmer (eschirme@nmsu.edu) no later than Monday, Feb. 16 (for the Weiskott workshop) or Friday, Mar. 13 (for the Holsinger workshop). Nominate early to reserve a spot!
• Nominations should include the following:
- student name(s), email(s), major(s), and any relevant coursework;
- your brief reason for nomination (1-2 sentences);
• Students can be nominated for either workshop, or for both; group nominations (e.g., of a seminar) are welcome;
• Workshop organizers will reach out to nominated students directly to invite them to participate;
• Student participants will be expected to prepare a brief selection in advance.
